Grant Hart points to the approximate location of the Cheapo Records cash register, where he first met Bob Mould in 1979. The record store, which was located on Grand Ave on the edge of the Macalester College campus, is long gone. The space had become a parking lot when these photos were shot in May 2008. The photo below adds a little perspective; the red brick building on the left is a Thai restaurant. Along this particular stretch of off-campus businesses, Grant wistfully noted that only the Ace Hardware store across the street (not shown) had survived from the days when he was a record store clerk and Bob was a Macalester student.
